Opihi (6 Months - 3 Years Old, with Parent Participation) Geared to gain confidence in the water and have a one-on-one water experience with Mom/Dad/Guardian in-water assistance. Water adjustment: blowing bubbles; putting face in water; front & back float; safety topics. Registration for a specific time slot is required, but participants are welcome to attend any or all of the other Opihi timeslots each week.
Humu Humu (2 Years & Older) Skills taught to build water adjustment abilities including: floating on front and back with support; blowing bubbles; independent water entry and exit; moving through water; kicking on front and back with support leading to independence; introduction to arm strokes; safety discussions and demonstrations.
Malolo (3 Years & Older) A step beyond Humu Humu's. Skills taught include: holding breath under water; retrieving objects; orientation to deep water; independent front float/glide & back float/glide; introduction to rhythmic breathing; independent kicking on front and back; front crawl and back stroke; body rotation from front to back & back to front; PFD skills and safety discussions and demonstrations.
Manta (3 Years & Older) ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST BE ABLE TO: Independently float & kick on front and back; begun rhythmic breathing; rotation of body positioning back to front & front to back; swim independently 5 yds. Skills taught include: Refineme nt of front crawl stroke with rhythmic breathing; back stroke; introduction to deep water; safety discussions and demonstrations.
Tang (4 Years & Older) Pre-requisite: Mantas - MUST be able to swim length of pool unassisted. Skills taught include: Independent retrieval of submerged objects; submerged bobbing traveling to shallow water; deep water entries/exit; stroke refinement; front & back glide from wall push-off; direction changes while swimming. treading water; safety discussions and demonstrations; introduction to rescue breathing.
Honu (5 Years & Older) Pre-requisite: Tangs. Skills taught include: Deep water bobbing and buoyancy; deep water diving; stroke refinement and endurance adding breast stroke and sidestroke; introduction to wall turns; safety discussions and demonstrations; rescue breathing; introduction to CPR.
Mano (5 Years & Older) Pre-requisite: Honus. Skills taught include: Alternate breathing; Stride jump entry; Long shallow dive; Breaststroke; Sidestroke; Swimming under water; Elementary backstroke; Butterfly; Front and back crawl; Open turns on front and back; Spinal injuries and Safety topics.
Makua Beginner (16 Years & Older) Never took the time to learn to swim? Interested in building your confidence around water? How about getting in the water while your kids are also learning? Sign up for our adult beginner class to meet those goals!
Makua Stroke (16 Years & Older) Need some motivation or companionship to get in the water to work out? Maybe you would just like to improve your strokes or efficiency in the water? |
